The US Census data is rolling in sparking the beginning of the redistricting process for state and federal offices. The Louisiana Legislature will convene in different areas of the state to discuss changes in boundaries for state house and senate districts, Congressional districts, school, and judicial districts statewide, before instituting new boundaries. The New Orleans City Council is also required by law to redraw the boundaries of the five Council districts to reflect changes in population since 2001.
There is a Joint Legislative Committee of the Louisiana Legislature Meeting to discuss redistricting on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. at Dillard University, Professional Schools and Sciences Building, Georges Auditorium (Room 115), 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA.
We encourage residents to attend this meeting to learn about the process of redistricting and express their opinion in this preliminary stage.
See you there!
