No More Free Curbside Pickup for Debris

The city’s Dept of Sanitation has posted ads in the Times-Picayune about the end of curbside storm debris pickup, since FEMA didn’t extend reimbursement for this.

Therefore, any owner of a small business or residential property being gutted, repaired, or constructed … shall be responsible for the removal and proper disposal of all storm damaged bulky waste and construction and reconstruction debris … No such waste or debris shall be placed curbside. Effective immediately, the city will begin Enforcement Action, including fines for those residents and contractors that do not comply.

The Elysian Field drop off site is open to residents to use through tomorrow (Sept. 30); then the Gentilly & Avondale sites will be available for a fee.
