The majority of housing discrimination complaints received by the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center come from renters seeking to obtain housing from small landlords. For this reason,GNOFHAC is pleased to offer a Fair Housing University training for landlords in honor of Fair Housing Month, 2012. The training will cover a housing provider’s basic responsibilities under the federal Fair Housing Act and an overview of Louisiana landlord-tenant law including:
• Protected classes & transactions under the Fair Housing Act
• Reasonable modification and accommodation for people with disabilities
• Discriminatory harassment
• Creating advertisements that comply with fair housing law
• Leases & evictions
• Security deposits & repairs
The presentation will include case studies and best practices tailored to the needs and experiences of small landlords. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

The Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center (GNOFHAC) is a private, non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to eradicating housing discrimination throughout the greater New Orleans area through education, investigation and enforcement activities. GNOFHAC promotes fair competition throughout the housing marketplace- rental, sales, lending and insurance. GNOFHAC staff investigate housing discrimination complaints and provide legal assistance to victims of discrimination, offer education about fair housing, and provide free post-purchase housing counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure, behind on their mortgage payments, and dealing with a variety of other homeownership issues.
