Dear District Attorney Jordan and Chief Riley: February 2, 2007
The Council requests your presence at the February 12, 2007 Council Criminal Justice Committee meeting to discuss the status of changes/reforms in crime fighting efforts. Among other issues that you may wish to present to the Council, please address the following:
1)Improvements in coordination between NOPD and the D.A.’s office, including report writing, investigations, evidence gathering/admission into evidence and trial testimony.
2)Measures taken to avoid 701 releases.
3) Improvements in NOPD professionalism and face to face interaction with the community.
4)Coordination with the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies.
5)Specific community policing efforts with ways that the clergy and community groups could be more helpful.
6)Recruiting efforts (Police and Code 6 D.A.’s), with suggestions for specific statistics and information on recent hires.
7)Number of and success of traffic check points.
8)Development/improvement of web-based information to assist the community.
9)Youth related initiatives to assist in crime fighting, i.e., PAL, etc.
10)Status of physical facilities and funding reimbursement regarding enhanced law enforcement, i.e. Crime lab, police headquarters, district stations, substations, etc.
11)Manpower and tactical unit deployment strategies.
12)National Guard engagement.
We appreciate your hard work and look forward to this opportunity to provide the public with more information about your efforts.
