The Mid City Neighborhood Organization (MCNO) was formed in April, 1990 by the merger of two civic associations which were founded in the 1970s to respond to threats to Mid-City from the decline of the physical appearance of properties, the exodus of long-term residents, and zoning changes that allowed speculators to change residential properties to industrial and commercial use. Their efforts were largely successful and today Mid-City is a diverse neighborhood, with a balance of residential and commercial properties. MCNO's "area of emphasis" is bounded by Broad St, Pontchartrain Expressway, City Park Ave, North Carrollton and Orleans Ave [map].
MCNO works closely with our District A & B Councilmembers and other City Government to advocate for improvements to the quality of life for those that live and work in Mid-City, and to assure continuous improvement of our neighborhood. MCNO has represented Mid-City residents in numerous cases concerning zoning, demolitions, illegal dumping, greenspace and other issues.
MCNO exists for every resident of Mid-City, and must represent the diversity that is our neighborhood. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the time for action is now. It is imperative that we unite as one to rebuild a stronger Mid-City; not one of us can do it alone. MCNO needs your presence and voices every step of the way.
Join MCNO and put a better Mid-City in the heart of New Orleans!
