Consider the option of parking on only one side of the narrow streets we have in this area.

No one wants to be left waiting for a fire truck because of cars, or trucks more importantly, taking up street space and blocking passage to any emergency vehicles we may need. This area was never meant to have all the traffic we have as a result of the businesses that are being allowed to open when they do not provide sufficient parking and jeopardize the homes and lifestyles of residents in the area. We only have to read about the recent fire on Cleveland Ave. to realize how vunerable we all are.

We need business in Mid-City, but not the kind that may profit the City coffers and business owners, but cost the citizens in fire risk, or pollution from restaurant exhaust vents or automobile exhaust fumes, or a drawing a multitude of strangers into our neighborhoods.

Let's really try to improve our neighborhood not just talk about it!

Let's be realistic here, this is to deter people from running on the tracks.Running on the tracks is very safe and not illegal. I plan to continue to use them frequently to train for running events. I was happy to see well over two dozen people today on my hour and a half uptown run also using the tracks. I would note that this new initiative comes less than a week after what was arguably the most successful running events ever held in New Orleans.

This sounds great as long as the buyer has a time limitation in which they must do the renovations. I've seen those who have bought Katrina- ravaged houses years ago and are still renovating them, not nearly finished today, and may be eligible to buy more properties and do the same thing. Meanwhile the blight is still there with only a change in ownership being accomplished.

This will be an excellent event in Mid-City and I encourage all Mid-Citizens to stop by if they can. Not only is this a way to show our appreciation to a Mid-City Institution, but we can also support the hard work of a Mid-City Business, Spears Consulting, who was awarded the contract at the RTA to design and implement a safety campaign for the RTA Streetcars and he has made us very proud! Plus, there will be free stuff!

Comment on MCNO Formal Position: Support the Mid-City Market by Bonnie

While the Board's approval of the Greenway crossings at the future Mid-City Marketplace is an exception to MCNO's current standing position regarding Greenway crossings, after weigh in from the MCNO Economic Development Committee and many other members of the organization, the Board concluded that the expected benefit of the Marketplace would substantially outweigh the potential detriment to the Greenway. The Bohn Ford auto center, is arguably the largest, most visible underdeveloped, blighted property in Mid-City. It is the Board's understanding that, without the crossing, the Mid-City Market will not become a reality. Therefore, the Board approved the crossing.

That said, MCNO’s support, came with the condition that all possible measures will be taken to minimize the impact on pedestrians and Greenway users as listed above. These conditions have been communicated to the Mayor's office who is committed to memorializing an agreement between the developer and the City regarding the relationship between the proposed development and the Lafitte Greenway.

If you are interested in getting involved in the advisory committee overseeing this and other developments, please email vp@mcno.org and we will add you to the appropriate mailing list. If you have any further questions, please join us at the next neighborhood meeting on March 12th at 6:30 where we will have Daniel Samuels from the Lafitte Steering Committee to provide an update on the Lafitte Greenway to neighbors.

Grace Episcopal was a great location right on Canal Street and best of all it was free. It is my opinion that the new location should not be a business, but another centrally located church, or community center that is non-profit. The location must be able to hold a minimum of 50 people, have restroom access, and allow food and drinks and be available in the evenings.

Will you be posting the other dates for Fight the Blight as they occur or are there already days scheduled in the future? If so, would you forward the schedule to me? I work most Saturdays doing events and I have a few slow weeks coming up and would love to help out. Thank you in advance for your time.

Best Regards,
Richard
