Carrollton & Walgreens in Agreement

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

After months of sometimes contentious debate, Walgreens has agreed to submit to the demands of the City of New Orleans and the NorthWest Carrollton Civic Association for the rebuild of a drug store on the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne.  See more here:

Walgreen’s Update

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

We’ve been keeping our eye on the proposal to build a Walgreen’s at Carrollton & Claiborne because we know Walgreen’s plans to build in Mid-City at Carrollton & Canal. According to an August 3rd release from City Council Rep Shelley Midura, “Walgreen’s will not under any circumstances obey the city’s zoning laws.”

The decision on the Carrollton & Claiborne site has been deferred until September 7th. Our neighbors up the street, the NorthWest Carrollton Civic Association, continue to monitor this issue.

Lynnette Judge forwarde this e-mail from the Walgreen’s real estate person. Thanks Lynnette.

Ms. Judge,

First, please allow me to apologize for the delay in getting back with you regarding your request for information.

Walgreens does not have any plans to reopen our store at Canal & Jefferson Davis. The store was completely flooded and would require extensive work to rebuild. We have; however, purchased the corner of Canal and Carroltton, and while we are unsure of the timing and exact scope of the redevelopment there, we will someday have a new freestanding Walgreens at that location. Walgreens remains very committed to our customers in New Orleans and the surrounding areas and we will continue to open stores to serve the customers in the affected area.

Thank you for your interest. Please feel free to contact me directly.

Walgreen’s

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

Walgreen’s has apparently purchased the Robert’s property at the corner of Canal and Carrollton. The sale was in the T-P’s real estate transfers on Saturday. This could be a “Super Walgreen’s” or a strip mall with a Walgreen’s anchor. Get ready for a prolonged discussion about design etc.
