  1. Amy R. Says:

Two dozen of my students met by the Casino Sat. morning to assist Kathy Schrenk in the cleanup of the island across from the Casino. We decided to let the parents and older siblings (with the help of weed-eaters and cutting tools) cut the high grass and clean out the abondoned sheds while my group of boys canvassed the area for trash and torn bags left by both visitors and raccoons.

Kathy was most appreciative and asked if we would consider adopting a small area of the Park that the boys could maintain long-term. I will present that idea to our student council and I’m sure they will volunteer to help as best as possible.

She asked where I had gotten the info from about the cleanup and I told her from the MCNO(which I’m now officially a new member of- not just a discussion groupie). Anyway, she seemed unaware of the posting. Does the MCNO have reps or members who work with the park on projects other than the Mid-City Art Market (which was a real hit today!)? Would the MCNO want to consider adopting a small area to maintain? I’ll be glad to contact Kathy or give the “green space” committee member Kathy’s info. She is on the Horticulture Committee for the Park.
